Ladies & Gents:
I am a fan of trains. One reason I bought my house was because it’s a short walk to the Collingswood PATCO station. On Thursday, I took seven different trains: PATCO to SEPTA to Amtrak to get to New York City, then the MTA to get back to Penn Station from a meeting, then Amtrak to SEPTA to PATCO. When I stepped out of the Collingswood station late Thursday night, I was about done with people. My dog was super jazzed though (that picture is not her reaction to that moment. It’s just cute).
Why New York City? To run through a publishing gauntlet, starting with Book Expo America. In addition to my usual scan of the publishing industry, I met the crew at Seal Press that would be working on turning my manuscript into a book. Then I had lunch with my agent and editor where we learned that there’s a thing called Sexy Fries, after which I zipped over to 1 World Trade Center to meet an editor at Glamour.
This sounds very chi chi, and it kind of was, except for a swamp of humidity that had me wilting before I even stepped into the Javitz Center (because someone had an outfit picked out in advance and was going to wear it no matter what, heat be damned. Dummy).
Speaking of being a fan of trains, I am also a fan of road trips. I just started planning my next one. I’m sick of flying, and this article outlines many of the $$ reasons why. One of the best parts about driving to and from my last vacation was the flexibility it allowed. It was freeing.

What I’m reading: I finished The Lady in Gold: The Extraordinary Tale of Gustav Klimt’s Masterpiece, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Anne-Marie O’Connor, which was beautiful and devastating. Now I’m on The Nurses: A Year of Secrets, Drama, and Miracles with the Heroes of the Hospitalby Alexandra Robbins.
What I’m watching: I saw Mad Max again. STILL AMAZING. As for Gilmore Girls, I am now in Season 5. I’m just a few years older than the Rory character, so our time in college overlapped. It’s been fun taking a short walk back through memory to remember college and also much phone technology changed so quickly in a short period of time.
