As the heat cranks up, I am reminded again that I made the right call in not running a fall marathon. I don’t do well in the heat, and in the last three summers (and last three fall marathon training cycles), I’ve ended up with an eczema outbreak that required emergency care. No thanks. I haven’t stopped training though. I received my official invite to run in the media heat of the Fifth Avenue Mile, which has meant a lot of strength training, hill training and speedwork (if you love/hate speedwork, read this. Also, tinyletter autocorrects speedwork to spadework which makes me giggle).
The shirt in that picture is from Tracksmith. I ordered shorts from them to possibly wear in a book-related photo, and tossed the tank into my cart. I figured I’d return it along with shorts that didn’t fit (I ordered two pairs in two sizes). And that’s how I came to own a $64 tank top. Oops. #treatyoself?
I reported on a handful of stories last week but on Friday, I snuck down to Sea Isle for…uh…work? Not really. I don’t take snow days. I take perfect beach days instead. But payback means it’s been a busy Monday so far, one that included finishing a difficult piece for a new-to-me client. The nerves! I hope they like it. It’s a story I’ve been trying to sell all summer.

What I’m Reading
The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. Hooray full fat milk!
Want another newsletter? Try Two Bossy Dames. They pointed me toward the You Must Remember This podcast, which just wrapped up a 12-part series about Charles Manson. It’s now my go-to podcast for running. I know about Charles Manson, but not so much what actually happened. This podcast is taking care of that.
What I’m Watching
Still on Arrested Development. Just got to the “loose seal” part – so so good.
