Notes from a Hired Pen: A thank you, and a foster dog!

Readers! Thank you so much for all your input into what I could do next. I have two solid directions I'm considering. My goal is to be in that new space by the time I write my big year end wrap up. So stay tuned.

BUT IN THE MEANTIME, please met my foster Kate, who I have dubbed Kate the Great.

Kate is a 3ish year old, 40ish pound mutt who has traveled from Texas to New Jersey via the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, N.J. She's hanging out at Chez Miller to get a break from the shelter environment, which can be stressful. I'm not ready to adopt a dog, but I'm more than happy to help out pups looking for their forever homes.

So far, she's shown to be house trained and crate trained, wasn't mad when I gave her a bath, slept through the night, and went on a long long walk with me this morning. She could use work on leash manners (though she's better on a leash than Annie was when I first got her), and some noises about inside life scare her, but she's already shown to be a snuggly, lovable pup. Animal Welfare Association is recommending that she go to a home where there aren't other pets (because she has a prey drive, as that turkey she saw this morning now knows) and if there are kids, they be over 10 years old.
