Welcome to summer, whether you love it or, like me, get swamped by the heat and humidity. Most likely you're going to be out of your office at some point. Most likely your clients will be too, and these times will rarely match. But! I'm writing to dispel the myth that work is slow over the summer. It's not! Here's why.
- Content still needs to be written. Newspapers don't stop publishing news. Websites don't stop uploading new stories. Newsletters, marketing campaigns, sponsored content – it all still rolls on. Even if your editor is out for a week or two, most likely they're not off the whole summer. Communication is key to keep the assignments flowing.
- Freelancers can pinch hit to cover vacations. I'll often take on an extra assignment or two for regular clients when their staff writers are off. Maybe you can too.
- Fall is around the corner. And I don't just mean summer clothes going on deep discount before Fourth of July (though that's nice for me because my big vacation starts later this summer). I'm busy working on pieces for the fall issues of four different alumni magazines. August is one of my highest billing months of the year for this reason.
While you work on that, I'm headed out for a week in Maine. So….bye!

- Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. This is an absolutely wild movie that has more easter eggs than I could count. Do little kids get all these jokes? Do they even care? I loved it.
- The Flight Attendant. I have never seen anyone able to cry on screen like Kaley Cuoco. She can just turn on the ugly cry, tears flowing, at the drop of a dime. Good for her (in more ways that one).
- Dateline. Listen. Sometimes you just need formulaic television, and this is the definition of that.
